HISTORY
During the 16th century the residence nearby complained for boisterous sound produced by the bell during Angelus. The people demanded the local priest to remove the bell. And so the priest had to take it to the nearby river. This explains the name "Hinulugang Taktak" which means "Where the bell was dropped". Cool isn't? Antipolo is known for being a religious place and Hinulugang taktak also became a tourist spot and remarkable target for it's beautiful ambiance and environment. During 1980's the government acknowledge it as a National Park.

-----

As years, decades passed by, the beauty and symmetry of the falls vanishes. It is not maintained properly. The government are not aware of this, they don't give attention to the falls. It is very far for what you call National Park. Trashes, sods are scattered to the park even to the falls. Water can't even flow freely because of the trashes that blocks. The smell is awful. The government said that restoration will be done but until now, nothing changes. Let's hope that everything will be back to normal and make it clean and also bring the tourist back there.

HINULUGANG TAKTAK, BEFORE..

Hinulugang Taktak in Antipolo. This is famous waterfall, the Prime tourist spot of Old Antipolo. Green leaves, smooth ambiance, healthy environment, clean sorroundings, clean flowing water, sweet chirping of the birds, people enjoying the place. Children playing as their mothers rinsed the laundry upstream, different kinds of fish visible in the water so clear that even the colors of fascinating butterflies were reflected on the water.

AFTER...

But sadly, that charming scene is no longer available. Now, all you can see is dirty water and different kinds of garbages thrown by different people. But  hope is still flowing: The city government and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) are appointing with private groups for a P100-million makeover aimed to restore the glory of the Philippines’ one of the most brilliant waterfall in 10-20 years.

Last 2 years, Mayor Vic Sumulong started efforts to rehabilitate the park. Because the park was then under the DENR, Sumulong worked to have it returned to the jurisdiction of Antipolo, or at least to have the city as co-manager. The physical renovation of the park, is already complete. Bench, cottages, kubo's and other are already done. Workers regularly bail garbage from the water basin, but it should not start with one person or the government only, attitude of people living nearby the falls should also cooperate and do what they think is right and things that will make the rehabilitation of the falls easily and properly. We all wanted to restored it to its original beauty.

Dungo, the appointed project head, says that ways to clean up the water are being studied—to put up fences along the river, to divert the dirty water and use artificial water for the waterfall, or to set up a filter to clean the water before it drains into the waterfall. But Dungo acknowledges that these ways mean tolerating those who throw garbage upstream. Thus, she says, relocating the illegal settlers is also being planned.

Kaya't tayo'y magtulungan upang masagip ang batis na kay ganda
Na kung tawagin ay hi hi hinulugang taktak.
